Automobiles are self-propelled motor vehicles that carry passengers for transportation on land. The resulting industry quickly became the backbone of a new consumer goods-oriented society, ranked as one of the most valuable industries in the country, and provided many thousands of jobs. It was also the primary user of petroleum products and a major customer for steel and other industrial products, as well as a catalyst for development of many services and infrastructure.
Automobiles changed the way people live. They gave them freedom to travel wherever they wanted, when they wanted. This allowed people to work more hours in order to make more money and to have a better life. It also gave them the opportunity to visit family and friends, go on vacations or take road trips. They could listen to music, watch movies or television, and even play games. This is what makes them so popular today.
